Overview

The MSMWHS216 – Operate Breathing Apparatus training course in Perth is aimed at ensuring the health and safety of personnel who have to undertake work activities within an irrespirable atmosphere.

It provides a guide to maintaining and operating an open-circuit self-contained breathing apparatus, correct testing and donning procedures as per AS/NZS 1715 : 2009 and 1716 : 2012.

Students will attain the theoretical knowledge and the practical application to operate breathing apparatus properly and will be able to:

  1. Pre-Donning Checks: Inspect breathing apparatus for use, report any faulty or damaged equipment.

  2. Operate Breathing Apparatus: Monitor and control hazards, maintain communication, use apparatus as required, manage working time, follow entrapment procedures, ensure personal safety.

  3. Conclude Operations: Shut down and remove apparatus, clean and maintain it, prepare equipment for next use.

This course consists of two essential components: Theoretical and Practical.

You will be enrolled into the following unit of competency:

  • MSMWHS216 – Operate Breathing Apparatus

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  1. Participants must be clean shaven in order to attend the course

  2. Ability to read, write and understand English

  3. Present photo I.D. on arrival

  4. Complete a ‘Fitness to Complete Training’ form upon arrival at the training facility. The student is required to declare any medical issue that may exclude them from full participation

  5. Wear normal work clothing, enclosed footwear and remove all jewellery prior to commencement

ACCREDITATION & AWARD

On successful completion of this course, students will receive a:

  • Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment for MSMWHS216 – Operate Breathing Apparatus

Your Statement of Attainment does not have an expiry date, however, industry standards recommend retraining every two years.

The Unique Student Identifier (USI) must be supplied and verified prior to issuance.
